AMM 2026: Global Partnership, Innovation, and New Horizons for the Development of the Mining and Metallurgical Complex
The 16th International Mining and Metallurgy Congress Astana Mining & Metallurgy – AMM 2026 has begun in Astana. For more than fifteen years, the AMM Congress has served as a key platform for strengthening cooperation between government and business, fostering international collaboration, and advancing strategic initiatives in the fields of subsoil use, metallurgy, and industrial production.
On the sidelines of the event, a "USA – Kazakhstan" Country Roundtable was held, attended by Erzhan Kazykhan, Representative of the President of Kazakhstan for negotiations with the United States on priority issues of bilateral cooperation; Alibek Kuantyrov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Kanat Sharlapayev, Chairman of the Presidium of the Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs; Magzhan Ilyasov, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United States; Julie M. Stufft, US Ambassador to Kazakhstan; David Fogel, Assistant Secretary of Commerce; and others.
E. Kazykhan, Representative of the President of Kazakhstan for negotiations with the United States on priority issues of bilateral cooperation, highlighted the the 35th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between the countries.
"Our bilateral trade and investment partnership continues to deliver tangible results. The United States is the second largest investor in Kazakhstan’s economy. Currently, more than 630 American companies successfully operate in Kazakhstan.," said E. Kazykhan.
During his speech, A. Kuantyrov noted that over $480 billion in cumulative FDI attracted since independence – the largest in Central Asia.
"The investment landscape encompasses energy, mining, manufacturing, and technology," he added.
The Foreign Ministry representative also outlined the most promising sectors for investment: critical minerals and green technologies, wind and solar energy potential, agribusiness and food processing, transport and logistics, manufacturing and petrochemicals, the digital economy and fintech.
Participants also noted the growing mutual interest in developing cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United States in the field of subsoil use and metallurgy.
This year, the Congress will bring together approximately 1,500 delegates from 16 countries, including Belgium, Canada, China, the European Union, France, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Sweden, the UAE, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The program includes 21 thematic sessions and 3 specialized industry forums with the participation of more than 190 international speakers.
