Emirates NBD Integrates Bloomberg Sustainability Data into Advisory Practice
Emirates NBD, a major banking group operating in the Middle East, North Africa and Turkiye region, has integrated Bloomberg's globally recognized sustainability data and analytics into its corporate advisory practice.
The bank selected Bloomberg's sustainable finance materiality framework to enhance its capacity to offer strategic advice to companies regarding financially material risks and opportunities, according to the source.
The framework, supported by Bloomberg's global sustainability data, enables users to evaluate financially material industry-specific environmental and social factors, along with governance considerations that incorporate country-level policies and practices. This is done through a globally applied analytical methodology.
Emirates NBD indicated that the incorporation of high-quality, decision-useful sustainability data is becoming increasingly essential for informed capital allocation and resilient growth. The announcement coincides with new regulations taking effect this year in the Gulf, such as the UAE Climate Change Law and enhanced climate-risk assessments by the Central Bank of the UAE, which are expected to raise demand for robust, data-driven sustainability analytics in the region, the bank stated.
Vijay Bains, Chief Sustainability Officer and Group Head of ESG at Emirates NBD, commented that the partnership with Bloomberg aligns with the bank's strategy of developing financial products and services that create long-term value for people and the planet. He added that as a socially responsible bank, Emirates NBD remains committed to aligning with international best practices in reporting, disclosure, and risk management relevant to its operations and the broader industry. Bains noted that Bloomberg's sustainability data and analytics will help the bank identify high-potential prospects, improve engagement and tailored solutions with existing clients, and deliver measurable outcomes supporting the UAE's sustainable and inclusive future.
Nadia Humphreys, Head of Sustainable Finance Data Solutions at Bloomberg, stated that Bloomberg is pleased to support Emirates NBD with its globally recognized sustainability data. Humphreys noted that investment firms are increasingly incorporating sustainability factors into investment and advisory activities, recognizing these factors as integral to understanding long-term value and risk. He added that this capability will assist companies in the UAE and across the region in better assessing risks and opportunities, responding to stakeholder expectations, and making more informed strategic decisions.
