MuniFin awarded for its sustainability commitment
MuniFin has been recognised as having made one of the best voluntary sustainability commitments for 2025 in Finland. The commitment aims to increase the share of green finance and our customers’ understanding of sustainable investments.
The best voluntary sustainability commitments of 2025 were awarded on 20 May at the State and Future of Sustainable Development seminar organised by the Finnish National Commission on Sustainable Development and the Parliament’s Committee for the Future. The awards were presented by Finland’s Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, Sari Multala.
“In MuniFin’s case, the key factors highlighted were the long-term nature of the commitment and transparent reporting on progress, as well as the importance of green finance as a core part of the company’s strategy and customer work. In our role, we seek to promote the implementation of societal investments in all market conditions and to increase the share of sustainable finance that meets defined criteria,” says Mikko Noronen, Sustainability Manager at MuniFin.
MuniFin’s customers play a significant role in promoting the sustainable transition of Finnish society. MuniFin has been granting green finance since 2016, so this year marks the tenth anniversary. The financed projects include energy-efficient buildings, renewable energy solutions, low-emission public transport, and projects for water and wastewater management.
In MuniFin’s recently updated sustainability programme, the company has set a target that 50 per cent of the long-term customer finance will be sustainable finance by 2035. In addition, MuniFin aims to reduce the emission intensity of the financed residential properties by 71 per cent and the emission intensity of other financed properties by 73.5 per cent from the 2023 level by 2035.
