Amazon Expands AI and Cloud Investments in Spain — Driving Regional Digital and Economic Growth
At the 2026 Mobile World Congress (MWC26 Barcelona), Amazon announced it will further expand its infrastructure investment in Spain, adding €18 billion for AI and cloud data center projects, bringing the total investment since 2024 to €33.7 billion (approximately RMB 272.3 billion).
The investment will focus on Aragón, covering the AWS Europe (Spain) Region’s AI and cloud data centers, as well as supporting facilities including server manufacturing, fulfillment warehouses, and AI/ML server assembly and maintenance centers.
Economic and Employment Impact
Contribute approximately €31.7 billion to Spain’s GDP
Support around 29,900 full-time equivalent jobs (direct, indirect, and induced)
Create about 1,800 new local jobs in Aragón
These investments will strengthen regional cloud computing and AI capabilities and support digital transformation and innovation across businesses, research institutions, and education sectors.
Community and Sustainability Initiatives
Amazon also plans to invest €30 million by 2035 in community projects, focusing on education, sustainability, social impact, and local development.
For energy sustainability, AWS data centers in Aragón operate with 100% renewable energy, supported by over 100 solar and wind projects, including seven new solar plants, to ensure smooth operations and future expansion.
Regional Investment and Industrial Upgrade
The supporting supply chain facilities will enhance industrial clustering, attract companies into the global digital value chain, and cultivate talent for the AI and cloud sectors.
Overall, Amazon’s investment will accelerate Spain’s digital economy and technological innovation, promote regional industrial upgrading, and position Aragón as a hub for AI and cloud computing in Europe.
