Intesa Sanpaolo Strengthens Luxembourg Corporate Banking Hub
Intesa Sanpaolo Bank is consolidating its international corporate banking activities in Luxembourg, which acts as a group competence centre. As reported in a recent article, the Italian bank, which has been present in the Grand Duchy for half a century and recently moved into a brand-new headquarter, will integrate Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Ireland, which will cease its activities once the integration of the Irish operations into the Luxembourg entity is concluded. The operation is expected to be finalized by the end of this year.
This consoldiation strengthens Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Luxembourg's position as a European center of expertise in CIB activities and underlines Luxembourg's role as a hub for corporate banking in the EU, as further evidenced by the recent arrival of new non-EU banks in Luxembourg, notably from the US, UK and Brasil. The Luxembourg bank led by Massimo Torchiana has specialized in offering banking and financial services to international corporate clients of the transalpine banking group.
After the absorption of the Irish entity, Intesa Sanpaolo will be one the largest banks in the Luxembourg financial center. Intesa Sanpaolo Group is moreover one of the ten largest banks in Europe by market capitalisation.
